In honor of Middle School Monday, a regular themed post I’ll be doing to zoom in on the wonderful years of Junior High school with input from the Perfect10 Middle School panel, I’m interviewing Monica today.

Julie: How old are you and where are you from?
Monica: I’m 13 and in 8th grade. I live in NJ, USA! Stranger danger, you know?
Julie: What are your favorite books?
Monica: The Giver by Lois Lowry, Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher, Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins - Made me cry!
Julie: Number The Stars by Louis Lowry is my second favorite book of all time. I haven’t read The Giver. And those other two you mentioned are on my top 10 list for sure.
Julie: So, what’s in your locker, Monica?
Monica: To be honest, I don't have a locker. Mine is jammed and the school hasn't bothered to fix it.
Julie: This is tragic…we should start a petition to have it fixed asap. Otherwise, where will you put your Justin Beiber poster? Kidding. Anyway…next question. What was on the cafeteria gossip menu today?
Monica: Me and my friends talk about the stupidest "gossip" you can imagine. All of the 8th graders just had a debate about whether penguins can smile or not. Then we argued what's better SOCCER or BASEBALL! And then the occasional friend, *cough* Hurley *cough*, you says FOOTBALL! 6th graders always sit in the front. 7th grade in the middle, and the 8th graders always nearest to the cafeteria door…The perks of being a middle school senior.
Julie: Which teen idol deserves a spot in your locker? Even though you don’t have one…
Monica: Well, if I had a locker, the teen idol would be . . . Lauren Kate. Lauren Kate, author of the Fallen series. She's my idol because she explains how before her first novel was published she received LOTS of rejections. I mean, this happened to every author I know of but what caught my ear was when she said "It only takes one person to say yes." :)
Julie: that is 100% true. Great choice.
Thanks so much, Monica!
